Part II
How different you would be in an Authoritarian Government
Living in a country with an Authoritarian government can result to a horrible life. First,
everything in this form of government is totally controlled by the government and this would
deny citizen rights to act and be you. It makes us citizens feel controlled thus one would feel
insecure since any action you undertake may be subjected to scrutiny and if considered wrong
punishment would be the consequence. Therefore, living in an Authoritarian society will make
me as an individual to be totally different in the sense that I would not be able to express myself
as I would do in a democratic society.
Secondly, in an authoritarian society there is zero privacy since everything is being
monitored whether you know it or you don’t. Therefore, this system tends to brainwash citizens
which is generally disturbing since the government has absolute powers meaning they are able to
lie to citizens about everything to maintain power. Living in an authoritarian society would
brainwash me and make me completely different. If I am brainwashed to believe the government
controls every aspect of my life and that of others then there is the possibility that I will lose

desire to work hard and build the nation unless am compelled to. No human being would like
living a miserable present life.
Part III
CHART A
Advantages

Authoritarian

Development of the nation
The authoritarian government has the ability to develop the nation anywhere at
any time due to absolute ownership of country’s resources and power.
For example, in excerpt #1 the Chinese government had power to move
people and prepare for summer Olympics games within a short period of time;
this would attract foreigners to spend time in the country which boosted the
economy in general.
Disadvantages

NO rights for citizens
An authoritarian government does not give any rights to the citizens and
therefore every activity is controlled by the government. Those who go against
the views of the government are likely to face stiff penalties including death.
For example, in excerpt #3 during Saddam Hussein regime, citizens were
only allowed to vote for an individual leader with a ‘yes’ or ‘NO’ .Those who
voted for the leader were safe and carried on with life as normal under the total
rule of the government. On the other hand, those who voted no faced execution
as punishment for going against the government. This is an extreme form
where authoritarian rule takes all rights from citizens.

Democratic

Advantages
Citizens have Rights over government actions
In a democratic government, the citizens have rights and power to influence
and control actions of the government. This implies that any activity conducted
by the government is always subjected to scrutiny of the public.
For instance, in excerpt #2 the United States government was involved
in dealing with the Hurricane Katrina catastrophe. Even though it had put in
place measures to assist the public, there was a lot of criticism on how
unprepared the government was in dealing with the disaster thus compelling
the government to improve its disaster management efforts in future since the
citizens felt like their tax payer amounts were not effectively utilized in such a
situation. Citizens had rights to influence United States government activities.
Disadvantages
Possibility of being impeached
In a democratic government, there is a high probability of a leader to be
impeached especially where some parties are not happy with the kind of
leadership or even their rights and interests are not being protected as intended.
This leads to individuals working their way to eject the incumbent and place a
candidate that would serve their rights as desired.
For example, in excerpt #4 the Illinois State legislature moved ahead an
initiated proceeding s to impeach the governor for criminal conspiracy instead
of protecting the citizens as desired by the other leaders. Therefore, the state
was able to impeach the governor who lost the seat and was replaced by his

successor whose activity aligned with what the citizens and the legislature had
envisioned. Impeachment results to lose of integrity, trust and job opportunity
to serve people.

Country A government and leaders only acted as
though they cared but they only cared for the
region they resided from. This created inequality
and poor use of tax payer money to aid one
region of the country. Until they could settle the
whole country, their actions were totally
ineffective.

Elections

The riots/protests by citizens are a normal act and
a right enshrined in many countries constitution.
The use of military in dealing with protesters had
a sinister motive since the military are known to
use excessive force to when fighting the enemy.
In country A, the protesters were neither enemy
nor criminal to the country; they were citizens
fighting for their rights. Therefore, using the
military to deal with rioters thus cause massive
injuries, imprisonments and deaths of innocent
people was totally an ineffective act.

election in country A.

The imprisonment of opposition leaders clearly
indicates how the ruling government is
authoritarian in nature since it was able to win the
election by 99.9% without being opposed. This
move was ineffective since it only reflects the
views of the government and not of the people
and opposition parties in general.
