There is plenty of information to know about skiing and its equipment. That is, the history of skiing and how it began as a necessity rather than an entertainment and how the equipment evolved to become what they are now. Also, there is more to know about how the emergence of terrain parks affected the sport. Nonetheless, there are several styles to know about skiing. The start of skiing equipment was in the Middle ages when Scandinavian farmers and hunters used the skis to finish their daily tasks (Lund & Masia, n.d.). Further, In the 18th century, countries used to train their soldiers on skis and fought a battle using the skis (Lund & Masia, n.d.). Afterwards, around 1840, Norway developed the bow-shaped cambered skis. Before that, skis were not curled at the nose of the skis and they were not slim and therefore it used the weight of the person in the middle. In 1868, Norhiem developed a ski with a side cut on the middle while the tip and tail remained wider. Also, he developed the boots and made stiffer bindings. In 1882, Norway produced hickory skis, which is a tough wood to make the skis thinner and stronger. In 1893, Norway created the two-layer skis but they were not so successful because the glue tended not to last because they were not waterproofed, which made it hard for the skis to stay attached. Also, Jacober built the first skis factory in Central Europe. In 1926, Lettner created the steel edge. Afterwards, in 1928, Reuge created the Kandahar binding which uses a spring-loaded cable. In 1932, they created the first successful three-layer skis. The skis succeeded because they used a waterproof glue. In 1936, ski poles reached mass production in France. In 1944, they created the first aluminum bottom. In 1945, Redux glue was used to create Metalite, which is the three-layer ski with a core of plywood. In 1946, they created three-layers of different materials. That is, a bottom metal, laminated wood core and plastic at the top. In 1990, Elan and Kniessl create the deep side cut skis (Lund & Masia, n.d.). National Ski Areas Association indicates that almost 94% of ski areas has at least one terrain park in them (Liftopia, 2015).

The present-day sporting activities have been adopted from old days. They have been
organized in a way that they fit in the modern world. This has been done through identifying the
tools initially used for such activities. The modernization and improvement to such items are
done to minimize the possibility of injuries to the participants in the game. Skiing is one activity
of interest which has seen the development of various items such as the boots to the present day
customized devices which enable the user to put up various performances in the field.
