Experts assert that the primary focus of the law is to ensure that there is social order. This
means that the criminals, as well as those people who are offended, are all protected by the law
(Cynthia and others, 2009). However, the criminal justice sector is changing at a high rate in
accordance with the changes in technology and people’s awareness of their rights and freedom.
Subsequently, change is inevitable to ensure that all people are protected under the rule of law.
Some recent changes in policies include the gun possession policy, national security, and federal
immigration laws. All of these have a significant impact on the law enforcement and safety of
the citizens.
Law enforcement policy by the police officers in the United States has seen several
reforms. This comes along with its ability to conduct investigations, liaising with the courts for
decisions and utilizing the correctional facilities. Historically, there has been consistent efforts by
every regime to change the functionality of the police for the citizens to enjoy their rights and
freedom as long as they do not infringe on the rights of other citizens(Cynthia and others, 2009).
