Assignment 2
Meaning of General System Theory (Ludwig VB) & Systems Generating Systems (C. Alexander)
Von Bertalanffy (1968) states that when classifying and assessing the world and what is
in it, the general systems theory offers and internally consistent framework comprised of
individual components which interact with each other in a non-linear manner. When this theory
came into place, science was able to be broken down into elementary components that would be
classified and evaluated according to how they interact and relate leading to more
comprehension of how phenomena existed and related. Alexander (1968) focused on a system
like a manner of viewing and an assessing a thing. A system adopts a holistic approach that is
only comprehended as a product of co-relations between/among sections. His theory states that
change in one part of the system, for instance the ecosystem, can result in change in another part
of the same system. For instance, release of fossil fuels into the atmosphere in the U.S. can result
in phases of global warming in other parts of the world such as Africa. Through this, the system
exhibits and demonstrates a holistic phenomenon.
Variational Evolution (Ernst Mayr)
Evolutionary biology was a new branch of life science founded by Darwin which was
made up of four contributions. Non-constancy of species was the first contribution, also known
as the modern evolution concept. The second concept was the branching evolution concept
which defined that all species descended from a single entity, while the third concept was that
evolution had no key discontinuities or breaks thus being gradual. The fourth and final concept
defined by Darwin was that natural selection was the chief mechanism of evolution. Through
these concepts, Darwin was able to discover the new branch of science philosophy, which is a
philosophy of biology.

cybernetics, and its states, postulated that systems were based on parameters, guidelines,
regulation, change and alteration, categorized via channel...
