The employment laws in the United States place independent contractors as separate
employees with unique rights and requirements in the organization. According to Fair Labor
Standards Act (FLSA), independent contractors in an organization are not employees, and they
do not enjoy equal rights with permanent employees. In that regard, as indicated by Rice &
Poloche (2010), independent contractors do not enjoy overtime laws, and they are not bound to
minimum wage requirement by the employment laws. As such, the laws allow independent
contractors to make own decisions concerning their clients. Therefore, the relationship between
independent contractors and their client are bound by the agreement between the two parties. The
