Should Marijuana be legalized in the United States?

It may not be the best option to legalize marijuana in the United States. This may be due
to several factors which include the fact that legalizing it may increase addiction among those
already illegally consuming it, marijuana brings about adverse effects on mental health of
individuals, and ultimately it leads to poor physical health. In addition, cannabis leads to the
deterioration of the overall lives of individuals and the fact that states and countries that have
legalized use of marijuana have noted its adversarial effects on their citizens. However, there
may be benefits that may come with the legalization of cannabis which may include treatments
of ailments such as glaucoma, boosting collection of revenue to both federal and state
governments, and may significantly reduce activities of drug dealers.
It is time society wholesomely admitted that priorities have awfully been misplaced in
today’s America. How did America end up with a society where the Big Gulps are banned in some
states like New York, whereas the welcome mat is rolled out for Marijuana in states like Colorado?
How did America end up with a society that considers cigarette smokers as pariahs whereas
marijuana smokers are cheered on? This is the situation irrespective of the fact that marijuana
smoking is linked to physiological issues such as hallucination and paranoia, not mentioning the
obvious fact that Marijuana users often end up in prisons as a result of these same side effects.
Irrespective of whatever assertions the pro-legalization may want to put across, it’s a point of
common sense that a ‘momentary high’ is not worth all the risks that come along with Marijuana
use; consequently, the federal government should not legalize marijuana.
