How to Deal with Children’s Struggles
Mr. Keiley shares a description of a young homeless girl who offers a lot of return for her
education. He argues that when parents struggle it makes their children struggle too, but kids can
achieve anything if they really focus on school (Keiley, 2011). Curenton & Iruka (2013), argues
that professionals should be aware of the needs of families and children enrolled in their
institution and enact strategies that will help them grow. It is imperative to come up with lessons
that are relevant and helpful to these children and families (Curenton & Iruka, 2013). Therefore,
as a classroom teacher, I would create a learning environment that engages the student. This may
incorporate encouraging them to concentrate on their studies so that they can be able to one day
overcome such tribulations. These students will likely feel inferior to other students and thus it is
important to engage them in discussions or using games to communicate and make them interact
freely with other kids. I would personally talk with the child and assure them that they should not
bear the burden of these struggles. It is imperative for the child to feel comfortable and engaged
and thus I would interact with the children and create an engaging relation with the parents. This
may entail asking them to constantly talk to the child and advise the kid to concentrate on
studies. It is imperative to be a multicultural teacher and enact diversity in the learning
environment. Children will grow better when they are aware that they have differences and face
different challenges. They will be more determined to get through them.
