This refers to a story or literature work with an extraordinary theme or activities. A marvelous
story contains a storyline that is unbelievable to the reader due to a supernatural plot or events
that happen outside of the ordinary. A good depiction of marvelous story is portrayed in “The
Birthmark” comprising a scientist who perceives his wife’s birthmark to be a source of
imperfection and engages in a series of steps to remove it. The story draws some very interesting
questions about science and the human body that make it marvelous. It examines to what extend
science can inform us about the world around us and how much we can alter nature. Most
importantly, the aspect of playing God is another concept that make the story marvelous as it
questions whether people should play the role of God.
2. Unreliable Narrator
This refers to a narrator whose credibility as a narrator of a story has been compromised mostly
by his state of mind that questions his or her capability in narrating a story.
The House of Usher gives a good example of an unreliable narrator. From the beginning of the
story, the narrator seems to be suffering from depression that discredits his reliability as a

narrator. In the opening scene of the story, prior the narrator reaches the dull house of Usher, the
