q.1 With respect to your textbook, explain what are some the problems to avoid with specific
purpose and central idea statements
When it comes to specific purpose and central ides statements, it is important to avoid specific
purpose statements with covering far too much and broad. It is also important to avoid a purpose
statement that is too focused. Again, one must avoid a communication verb that does not match
the content. It is important to consider formatting guidelines and avoid a speech that gets out of
track of the particular purpose statement.
q.2 Distinguish between the specific purpose, central idea, and main points of a speech. Explain
what each part is used for with respect to a speech.
The specific purpose builds on the general purpose while making it more specific. The central
idea, on the other hand, is the key message and as expressed in a single sentence. It is the
message the listeners should take home. The main points of the speech are smaller points of the
main idea that keep the speech nicely flowing and are best developed through brainstorming.
