Description

The Discussion Board (DB) is part of the core of online learning. Classroom discussion in an online environment requires the active participation of students and the instructor to create robust interaction and dialogue. Every student is expected to create an original response to the open-ended DB question as well as engage in dialogue by responding to posts created by others throughout the week. At the end of each unit, DB participation will be assessed based on both level of engagement and the quality of the contribution to the discussion. At a minimum, each student will be expected to post an original and thoughtful response to the DB question and contribute to the weekly dialogue by responding to at least two other posts from students. The first contribution must be posted before midnight (Central Time) on Friday of each week. Two additional responses are required after Friday of each week. Students are highly encouraged to engage on the Discussion Board early and often, as that is the primary way the university tracks class attendance and participation. The purpose of the Discussion Board is to allow students to learn through sharing ideas and experiences as they relate to course content and the DB question. Because it is not possible to engage in two-way dialogue after a conversation has ended, no posts to the DB will be accepted after the end of each unit. Examine the 2 fictional offenders listed below. When you have finished familiarizing yourself with their correctional experiences and criminal history, answer the questions outlined in the assignment guidelines. •Offender 1: This offender has a criminal background that consists of violent incidents, such as armed robbery with a deadly weapon, aggravated assault, and sexual assaults. This offender has been incarcerated several times and is familiar with the prison system. •Offender 2: This offender has a criminal background that consists of petty thefts, robbery, and burglary. This offender has been to jail several times but has never been incarcerated in prison. Assignment Guidelines: •Address the following in 3–5 paragraphs: ◦Which diagnostic instrument, OASys or LSI-R, should be used for each of the offenders above? ◾Why do you feel that the tests you have selected for each offender would be ideal? Explain. ◦Do you feel that there should be other tests for offenders besides the OASys and the LSI-R? Why or why not? ◦Can either of these 2 offenders be rehabilitated? Why or why not? ◾Can any offender be rehabilitated? Why or why not? •Post a new topic to the Discussion Board that contains your responses to the above questions. •Comment on at least 2 other students' posts, and explain why you agree or disagree with their stance on the rehabilitation of the 2 offenders in the assignment description. ◦Explain why you agree or disagree with their stance on the rehabilitation of any offender. •Be sure to reference all sources using APA style.

Introduction
In the criminal justice system, there is a need for use of diagnostic schemes that are well
structured to rehabilitate offenders fresh from prison. These schemes have been found to benefit
specific types of criminals such as petty thieves and violent criminals (Andrews, Bonta &
Wormith, 2006). Level Service Inventory-Revised (LSI-R) has some level of prediction due to
its ability to address more static parameters. It entails identifying the needs and risks of an
offender in relation to recidivism. Offender Assessment System (OASys) pays a lot of attention
to science-based tools. Basically, it is a tool utilized for assessing an offender's needs and risks.
Its interventions are based on feminist perceptions. It is a method that shows the need for further
action as well as facilitating early detections of cases.
