Appendix A
1. Was the design experimental, quasi-experimental, or non-experimental in this study?
Explain thoroughly.
The research was non-experimental. There was no treatment introduced to warrant the research
to being experimental and also there was no control group to make it purely experimental and
distinguish it from quasi-experimental research. The researchers just collected reports from the
parents and allowed them to play with their children as usual while they observed.
2. What specific design was used in this study? Explain thoroughly.
The design was a descriptive cross-sectional study of the subjects. This is because the
researchers aimed to find out trends among a group of the participants and describe their
observations in the report.
3. Was this a cause probing study? Explain thoroughly.
No. this is not a cause-probing study because it does not investigate the cause of any
phenomenon. First, there is no definite phenomenon being focused on rather the research aims to
illuminate on the improvement of parenting techniques. Therefore, the research does not unearth
any causal relationship between variables.
4. What is the clinical question for this study? Explain thoroughly.
There are four research questions in the study detailing the aim of the researchers. However, the
four questions could be summarized to a single clinical question that could be framed as: is there
a difference between the parents’ perception of using praise and criticism and praises when
raising children with mental health problems?
5. Was the most rigorous possible design used to answer the clinical question?
