Description

5. List the differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Give examples of organisms that have each kind of cell. What is the endosymbiosis theory? How does it explain the origin of certain organelles? Name two organelles involved in endosymbiosis.

6. A. What are the functions of a cell membrane? B. Diagram and describe the structural components and the physical properties of cell membranes. C. What is the most current cell membrane model called? Include the concepts of hydophilic and hydrophobic.

7. Draw a typical cell showing ten cell organelles or structures. Label each structure or organelle. Briefly describe the function of each.

8. List and define the major ways that molecules can move into and out of cells, through the cell membrane.

If it asks you to draw skip it or if you can draw it please do.

Differences between prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells
The eukaryotic cells have a nucleus which is bound by a cell membrane where else, the
prokaryotic cells lack a nucleus and also, they lack a true cell membrane. Eukaryote cells are
usually much smaller as compared to the eukaryotic cells. The cell type of the eukaryotic cells is
usually multicellular while that of prokaryotic cells in unicellular. Eukaryotic cells typically
contain mitochondrion in them while the prokaryotic cells lack the mitochondrion cells. The
eukaryotes usually contain Golgi apparatus while the prokaryotes lack them. Examples of
organisms with eukaryotic cells include animals, plants, protists, and fungi while those with
prokaryotic cells include bacteria and Archaea (Frye 2000).
The endosymbiosis theory is an evolutionary theory that was framed to explain how
eukaryotic cells evolved from prokaryotic cells. The theory says that some organelles came into
being because of the symbiotic relationships of organisms. The organelles that were involved i...
