Question one: Discuss the Fallacies of One-Hundred-Percent Inspections
The one hundred percent inspection is a process, which requires that every individual
component or unit, which is received from the supplier, be inspected fully to determine if it is
of the right quality and specifications. The process is labor-intensive and time-consuming.
This process is considered fallacious or illogical because of the impossibility to do so in all
the items that are received from a supplier. Many businesses and especially large businesses
may not have the resources including the labor, and time to carry out the full inspection as it
was adopted traditionally (Glass, 2002). Instead, the process is replaced by a modern
approach where alternative sampling is used.
The 100% inspection is considered fallacious because it generates unnecessary cost
without necessarily improving the security level. Also, the space that may be required to
execute such a process is not available to many businesses or ports. There are possibilities
that the inspections would also be rushed thus compromising quality. Considering the number
