Introduction
Department of Commerce is one of the cabinets in the US government with the central
mission of promoting the economic growth. Department of Commerce was initially launched in
the late 1890s when the business community put pressure on president Chester Arthur to create
the department to represent the interests of businesses. Initially, on the 14th February 1903 under
the leadership of President Theodore Roosevelt, Department of Commerce was under the
Department of Commerce and Labor. The Department of Commerce became single department
on March 13th, 1913, when President Howard Tarf established a separate Department of labor.
The Department of Commerce primary mandate is to regulation, development, and promotion of
US International trade and commerce through appropriate international trade and commercial
policy and implementation of various provisions.
