Introduction
Manufacturing companies in developing nations subject their employees to unfair
labor practices including deplorable work condition, meager wages that do not commensurate
with hours worked among others. This prompts the civil societies and student activists to
protest the consumption of commodities produced by these factories to show their solidarity
with employees in pushing for improved work conditions and better remuneration. However,
the labor relations policy formulators are out of touch with the real situations facing workers.
Complete adoption of international labor standards would reduce profit margins of
organization thereby forcing firms to reduce the number of workers while some companies
would collapse. The situation may result in more poverty. Instead of student s activist
protesting against low wages and poor work standards in developing countries, they should
champion consumption of products from these companies to increase profits and pay for the
workers.
