Question Description

The most compelling and enlightening. What was learned>

Student paper down below:

What have you learned from others' responses?

I have learned that were are all unique, and that we do not have the same beliefs. There seems to be a split decision on the belief that addiction is a disease. I also learned that many believe that addiction is a learned behavior. There seems to be no exact decision on whether genetics or heredity play a vital role in addiction. I have also learned that those of us who have been addicted have a different outlook on addiction, then those who have not seen it or only second hand.

What were the most compelling points from the interaction with your fellow students?

To me the most compelling points come when people read my posts. I know that I usually have plenty to say about everything. I have lived a very full and sometimes painful life. I have learned from experience, so my stories are always about me or family. I love it when someone challenges my way of thinking. I like to take time to read other posts, and see other ways of thinking. I really liked giving my opinion on the disease theory. It was also extremely interesting to see how little people actually believe that heredity and genetics play in addiction. One point I read in many discussion boards, is the effect childhood trauma plays in addiction. I believe that childhood trauma and addiction are linked. Many who incur childhood trauma, have family who suffer from addiction. I believe that genetics and heredity both play a role in addiction, but the biggest player is learned behavior. We learn from everything we interact with, and if substance abuse is part of that interaction, or chances of becoming addicted are that much higher.

How did participating in this discussion help in your understanding of the Discussion Board task?

It helped me see discussion's from other classmates perspectives. It also helped when I would get stumped on what was expected out of the discussion. There were times when I was so confused, and the discussions really helped. I think that is what makes the individual assignments so much harder.

What approaches could have yielded additional valuable information in the student networking?

I love research, and the more the better. I wish there would have been more, but I enjoyed all there was.

What is still unclear after the discussion with your classmates that needs to be clarified?

I did not think anything need clarification. Everyone did such a good job clarifying their point of view, that everything was so enjoyable to read!
