All  problems  are  to  be  done  in  Excel.     1. Each  set  of  ordered  pairs  below  is  generated  from  one  of  the  following   functions:  linear,  exponential,  or  quadratic.  Graph  the  ordered  pairs  and   connect  them  with  a  smooth  line,  then  decide  what  function  is  used  to   generate  each  set  of  ordered  pairs.     A.                                                                                          B.                                                                                          C.       !   !   !   !   !   !   -‐3   0.125   -‐3   18   -‐3   5   -‐2   0.25   -‐2   8   -‐2   3.5   -‐1   0.5   -‐1   2   -‐1   2   0   1   0   0   1   2   0   0.5   1   2   2   4   1   -‐1   2   8   3   8   2   -‐2.5   3   18   3   -‐4     Below  I  solve  an  example  to  help  you  understand  better  what  is  needed   from  you:     !   !   Example:  The  given  set  of  ordered  pairs  is  generated  from   -‐1   -‐5   one  of  the  following  functions:  linear,  exponential,  or   0   0   quadratic.  Graph  the  ordered  pairs  and  connect  them  with  a   1   3   smooth  line,  then  decide  what  function  is  used  to  generate   2   4   this  set  of  ordered  pairs.   3   3     4   0     5   -‐5     Solution:   -‐2   -‐1   5   4   3   2   1   0   -‐1   0   -‐2   -‐3   -‐4   -‐5   -‐6   1   2   3   4   5   The  ordered  pairs  are  generated  from  a  quadratic  function.     6     2. In  this  problem  you  will  practice  evaluating  more  complex  expressions  in   Excel.  Note  that  the  symbol  ‘  ^  ‘  is  used  to  raise  to  a  power.  For  example,  to   evaluate  2! you  would  enter  =2^3  in  Excel.  But  note  that  this  symbol  cannot   be  used  when  the  base  is  the  number  !.  For  example,  to  compute  ! !  you   cannot  type  in  =e^3  in  Excel.  Instead  you  will  type  =exp(3).  You  should  also   make  the  computations  using  your  calculator  and  compare  to  your  result  in   Excel.     Here  is  how  you  would  enter  the  following  expressions  in  excel:   a. The  expression  ! !.!∙!  would  be  entered  in  excel  as  =exp(0.3*5).     ! !∙! b. The  expression   1 + !  would  be  entered  in  excel  as  =(1+6/3)^(3*4).   Note  1:  Some  students  for  this  expression  would  write  =(1+6/3)^3*4  but   this  would  be  wrong.  Writing  =(1+6/3)^3*4  would  be  equivalent  to  the   ! ! expression   1 + ! ∙ 4,  compare  this  with  the  original  expression.   Note  2:  Some  students  may  enter  =(1+(6/3))^(3*4).  This  is  not  wrong   however,  there  is  no  reason  to  put  parentheses  around  6/3  since  excel   will  first  divide  6/3  and  then  it  will  add  to  it  1.     !" ! c. The  expression  !∙!" !!  would  be  entered  in  excel  as  =ln(7/3)/(2*ln(5)).     The  following  problem  is  to  be  done  in  excel  by  you  as  your  second   problem  for  this  lab:     a. 2! !.!     b. 3!.! + 3     c. 100! ! !.!"     d. 2,000 1 +   e. !"   f. !"" !"# !.!"   !,!"" !,!"" !.!" !"∙!" !! !" !"   !.!" !" ! !"
