Biological and environmental factors drive criminal behavior
Criminal behavior refers to antisocial deeds that are deemed unfit according the morals and
the set laws in a society. Human behavior can be influenced by both biological and environmental
factors. Biological factors will include genetic traits that can be inherent from ones parents or
family setup. To understand the influence of these genetic factors, identical twins born from a
parent who have criminal traits in their genes inherit a certain percentage of that behavior. This
can be evidenced from their childhood behaviors since as they grow they will develop lying,
dishonest, aggressive or destructive traits that are evidenced from their either of their parents.
Fraternal twins help explain this better. These are twins who are conceived through two separate
ova being fertilized by two sperm cells separately (Bartol, 2017).
In case either of the parents has genetic traits of engaging in crime, the twins born in their
growth may portray the same traits in their behavior. This proves that our personal traits are shaped
by the genetic traits inherent to our parents. On the other hand, it two identical twins were separated
and raised in different towns or social environments, they will have different personal traits (Bartol,
