Question description

Drama Essay Assignment: some reminders and guidelines

We have spent a few weeks exploring ways to understand the dramatic text and to give you multiple entry points for a close reading of the play. Your essay should focus on analyzing a single significant dimension of the play. I do not expect or desire a “laundry list” of possible themes or noticings about multiple characters; rather, I ask that you develop a limited main argument or thesis that addresses a particularly interesting aspect of the play in relationship to a single character and significant moment/micro-scene. Use specific textual evidence from the play to support your claims. The essay should be double-spaced with standard margins, and should include a title and a bibliography. Proofread carefully, editing the essay in accordance with the guidelines provided in any standard composition handbook available (many are in the Writing Center).

The essay should be a minimum of 650 words. Do NOT include any source material outside of the play itself. (I will not grade an essay that includes any research.)
