If you had to help someone spot “fake news,” what would you tell them? Choose a news article from a reputable media outlet and compare it to an online story that you know is fake. Using the checklist provided on the factcheck web site, compare the two. Although fake news is not new, it seems harder to distinguish and more accepted now. Why? How will this acceptance of fake news impact our democracy?

For all Assessments, the following general requirements hold:

(1) Assignments should be 3 double-spaced pages, with reasonable (12 pt.) font and reasonable (1 inch) margins.

(2) Citations to material are required; in-text citations are preferred (MLA style). A works cited list with at least three references must be included as the fourth page of the essay.

Fake news has always been delivered to people around the world via the different media
platforms. Such kind of news has been deemed to have a negative effect on the democracy of the
nation, and this should be viewed as a threat especially in today’s world. The world has changed
in the past few years. The current generation is now more connected more than ever thanks to the
internet which has brought about significant inventions such as the social media. If one is not on
a social media platform today, they are considered to be outdated, not fashionable or not trendy.
This is because that is the new lifestyle. In essence, social media is a landmark invention that has
transformed the way people communicate and socialize in many different aspects and is as well a
tool of enhancing global cohesiveness. However, it is still through the same tool that fake news is
now widely and quickly spread more than ever. This paper looks at how one can analyze news to
distinguish whether its fake or real.
