Introduction
Youth subculture is a systemic and worldwide youth-based culture that is characterized
by distinct and yet very familiar styles, interests, and behaviors in youth around a particular age
group. This is a subculture that has been bred by the continued consumption of mainstream and
social media rhetoric, which has influenced their way of life and thinking. This subculture offers
a different identity to the one subscribed by social institutions like family, school, or even work.
It has allowed the emergence of a group of people defiant and very hostile to the dominant
culture that previously was important to them. The extensiveness of this subculture beyond
individual social circles makes and even in rural setting shows the importance of technology and
mainstream media to influencing and supporting its growth. The importance of this subculture is
that it characterizes a changing social stature that is being fueled by the need for “populism” in a
world that gratifies self and material accumulation as the most important things to success. The
dominant culture is seen by members of this subculture as inhibiting and to some extent limiting.
Youth subculture typifies the changing social structure that is driven by popular culture through
the continued tumefaction of fantastic lifestyle by the social and mainstream media with little
care of its effect on the current generation.
