Description

In the final week of this course, you will design an intervention to address a specific problem you have identified utilizing social psychological insight. In Week 2, you began this process by crafting a topic statement. This week, you will continue to develop your thoughts by organizing them in the form of an outline, including an annotated bibliography that summarizes your research thus far. (For additional guidance, review the resources for Outlining and creating an Annotated Bibliography, available through the Ashford Writing Center.). Note that the purpose of this assignment, like the previous, is formative in nature. This is your chance to gain valuable feedback on the work you have completed thus far, as well as guidance as you move forward. To take full advantage of this opportunity, be sure you submit a substantive product. Your outline and annotated bibliography should encompass the following:

  • Describe social behavior.
  • Evaluate a problem.
  • Explain relevant social psychological theory.
  • Summarize intervention strategies.

The Outline and Annotated Bibliography

  • Must be at least 6 to 9 double-spaced pages in length and formatted according to APA style as outlined in the Writing Center’s Introduction to APA.
  • Must include an Outline and Annotated Bibliography.
  • Must utilize academic voice.
  • Must address the topic with critical thought.
  • Must use at least 10 peer-reviewed scholarly sources. Additional scholarly sources are encouraged.

Outline
Describe social behavior
Social behavior is the everyday interactions that occur between organisms of the same
species and are useful to both of them (Potter, and Wetherell 1987). The word social behavior is
a neutral term which might produce many different meanings making it necessary for other terms
like prosocial behavior to emerge. Prosocial means explicitly an interaction which is beneficial to
both organisms that are interacting. Though it’s an interaction, it might be a cost paying activity
where one of the party will have to pay it for the other to survive. A good example is when a
woman is breastfeeding a baby where she shares her body constituents with the baby. The
behavior depends on the natural settings of the organism and their adaptation. That brings in the
two sides of the relationship where it can be friendly as mentioned above or exhibits some
aggression like when two lions fight for access to one lioness.
Problem
A common problem associated with social behavior is the behavioral change with age.
Organisms of the same species at different ages will interact differently regarding their age
differences (Bales and Carter 2003). For instance, a small kid will interact differently with a
teenage than how he or she could mingle a kid of the same age. Also, the degrees of aggression
among people is known to change as age increases. That also happens to other organisms where
they will exhibit different levels of aggressiveness as their age increases. The different levels are
as a result growth in know-how and getting aware of the environment that a particular person or
an animal is living. The influence arises from the hardships that exist in the setting which require
a person to develop hardness for him or her to survive.

Relevant social psychological theory
Social psychology is about understanding the behaviors of a person regarding the social
context. A relevant social psychology theory is the attribution theory (Kelley, and Michela
1980). It refers to the way people develop meaning from another person's behavior. It helps
people in developing perceptions and arriving at valid conclusions easily. Through the theory,
people can eliminate thorough naivety trying to make sense of the things that happen in their
everyday lives.
Intervention
Intervening in the above problem will occur through developing conclu...
