The role of thyroid is majorly secretion of thyroxin hormone. The Para follicular cells
secrete calcitonin which has no important role in human beings. The disorders or diseases of
thyroid gland predominantly affects female compared to their male counterpart. Thyroid axis
takes part in the regulation of cellular differentiation and metabolism in almost all nucleated
cells. As a result, disorders of thyroid function have very diverse manifestations. The structural
diseases of thyroid gland, for instance goiter, commonly occur in patients who have normal
thyroid function.
