For this written assessment we will focus on generational diversity in the nursing population. Review table 12.2 on p. 379 of your textbook and address the following:
- Define and describe the four generations - name, timeframe, and a description of that group’s characteristics. (The Veterans, baby boomers, generation X, and millennials)
- Choose the group to which you belong. Explain how you think that you fit with this assessment of that generation. (i am a millennial - 1982)
- Select any other group to which you do not belong. Explain how those from your group can learn from that group, and explain how that group could learn from yours.

Introduction
According to Okoro and Washington (2012), the demographics in the workplaces change
significantly in the contemporary world. The age and generation cause indifferences in the
various workplaces. These generations or groups of people were born in the 20th century. Due to
the age differences, these generations tend to display own values, attitudes, and roles in the
workplace. Additionally, they show different modes of transfer of knowledge in their
workplaces. There are four generations embedded in any workplace, community: Generation X,
Millennials, Baby Boomers and the veterans.
Baby boomers
The baby boomers are the generations of those born between 1946 and 1964. These have
created more attention in the popular culture, media, and politics. This was the time of economic
prosperity. The people in this group seem to be very dedicated to their work. They value
individualism and creativity Haynes (2011) contends that this generation has a strong work ethic.
Additionally, their self-worth alongside their evaluation of other individuals is defined by work.
It is an egocentric generation whereby the individuals like work-related recognition, for instance
having the reserved parking. Most of them hold power positions in their workplace and occupy
the supervision and management levels. They are competitive, optimistic and better educated.
