Current and Legal Issues in Human Resource

Human resource management is rapidly changing in the present times. There is a constant
change in the needs of the employees and the legal infrastructure that firms have to abide in.
Employees are becoming enlightened, and they now can sue a firm for noncompliance with the
rules that govern employment. Of much concern, firms should observe the minimum wages that
employees are entitled to, ensure that there is no discrimination in selecting workers, observer
fair labor standards, and workers compensation should also be prompt, with any overtime being
paid.
The compliance requirements are always changing, and the federal and state governments

regulations that have been recently updated include the fair labor standards, family and medical
leave acts (Antonioni, 2014). One other grey area involves the OSHA regulations. These
regulations regard to workers working conditions being reviewed every so often in the
organization. OSHA officials are always on patrol seeking to find out which firms are not in
compliance with their rules. Workers are also becoming anonymous whistleblowers if they feel
that they are not working in ideal conditions.
Retaining of workers is the other challenge that many firms are facing. No firm wants to
lose their best employees. Keeping these workers requires that the firms make sure that the
workers are satisfied with their jobs and are comfortable in their careers. Showing appreciation
to these workers, compensation and offering them a chance to grow is an excellent way to make
sure that the workers remain loyal and productive in the workplace. Managers need to identify
