Making Healthy Food Choices ChooseMyPlate.gov and Food Tracker Dietary Software Analysis Background: In 2011, the Pyramid was replaced with a Dinner Plate divided into basic food groups. In this assignment you will have an opportunity to review the ChooseMyPlate website and apply two of the interactive tools to your own 3 day food records (created in a previous assignment). **I have included a worksheet format starting on the second page that you can use to complete the tables and questions for this assignment. Step One: Go to www.ChooseMyPlate.gov and review the website. Step Two: Create “My Plan” ✓ ✓ ✓ On the www.ChooseMyPlate.gov homepage, select “Online tools” from the upper tool bar. Then select “SuperTracker” and click on the “Create a Profile”. You will be asked to create a free account. o Input the information requested and “Submit”. You will be sent back to the starting page. Now select “My Family Plan” from the upper toolbar and then “My Plan” to view the recommendations that were created for you based on your personal data. Step Three: Use Supertracker Software to input your food records. Enter the data from each of your food records. ✓ ✓ Select “Track Food & Activity”, then “Food Tracker” from the Super Tracker menu choices. You will now input each of your 3 day food records into the Food Tracker dietary assessment program. o You can provide any missing details on types or amounts of foods and beverages so that you will be able to match them up with items in the Food Tracker database. ✓ Start with Day One: Reset the date to be the same as the date on your original Day One food record that you submitted earlier in the semester. ✓ Search (All Foods) Input the name of each food or beverage that you consumed. As the choices come up for a particular food, select the one that is the closest match. o You may end up substituting another food if there is not the same food listed. For example, your brand of granola bar is not listed; use another brand in its place. ✓ Select the amount for the item that matches your original records and the meal in which it was consumed. Then push the “ADD” button to have it added to your day. ✓ When you are done adding all the foods and beverages for day one, change the date to match your day two and day three records before inputting all foods and beverages for each day. Step Four: Use Supertracker to create 3 reports based on your food records. ✓ Click on “My Reports” from the top of the tool bar. ✓ You will be creating 3 reports and saving each one as a PDF file that you can upload for the assignment. ✓ Date Range: Be sure to select a start day that matches the date of Day One and an End date that matches the date of Day 3 so that you will get an average of all 3 days. ✓ Name of Reports: o Meal Summary report- this will show you all of the foods and beverages you entered for each day. o Food Groups and Calories-this will you list the recommended servings for each food group and an average of the 3 days. o Nutrients Report- your recommended nutrients and the average of your intake of those nutrients will be shown for the three days. See Making Healthy Choices Worksheet next page. This needs to be completely filled out in addition to the 3 reports listed above.
