Introduction
The novel, Frankenstein over the years has created deep responses in how literature and
culture interact. It explores what human beings encounter in their day to day life. Issues dealt
with in this book helps one analyze its application to the current situation in the society. These
areas include but are not limited to feminism, nurture v. nature, and personal perception.
Feminism
Shelley was driven by her personal experiences as a woman and a mother to write the
novel Frankenstein. According to the novel, the main target was not the father but the woman.
Shelley’s mother died while giving birth to her and because of not accepting her mother’s death,
she opted write literature. She believed that she gave birth to herself, that is, through reading of
books. This shows how the emotions of an adolescent girl affects the relationship between the
parents. The monster in the book was used symbolically to help Shelley express herself to satisfy
