How Psychosocial Theory Accounts For Positive and Negative Development Over the
Lifespan
Psychosocial theory helps in setting societal expectations behavior depending on the age
of a kid. This helps the society to understand and help mentor kids through the transition from
one stage to another. Secondly, the theory also helps the caregivers understand kid’s growth and
when they are likely to learn and acquire new abilities which are a very important aspect since it
will be easier to nurture the new abilities and help them develop within the necessary
lifespan(Bigner & Grayson, 2010). The theory also helps define what it normal development
along the different age groups as perceived in different environments and society one is brought
up in. however, a psychosocial crisis arises at different stages of development which are usually
contradictory to the needs of the society. This mostly happens at the adolescence stage since it is
at this stage that a child develops their self-identity. The theory also highlights that in the event
of a successful completion of a development cycle by a kid will lead to a successful transition to
the next development stage but if a kid does not complete a stage a set according to the age, it
may result in unsuccessful in completing the other stages which are likely to cause unhealthy
personality even in adulthood (...
