Introduction
Human trafficking is a form of modern-day slavery which is regarded as a global criminal
activity. In simple terms, human trafficking can be defined as the transporting, transferring,
harboring, or treating of individuals through a manner of threat, force, or many more coercion
forms. It also entails abducting, capturing of people through means of deception, fraud, or
through taking advantages to abuse a position or power abuse. Some of the victims carry it out
for monetary compensations where they give or receive payments. Human trafficking may also
involve taking control over other individuals in a manner that portrays exploitation or in other
words to receive advantages to achieve the consent of an individual (Nieuwenhuys, & Pécoud,
2007). This immoral act may be linked with illegal arms and is considered as the second largest
organized criminal activity globally. Also, trafficking of persons involves three interrelated
activities which are recruitment through deception or force, transportation across borders legally
or illegally or within a country, and exploitation. Most often, human trafficking has been
associated with cases of sexual exploitation and domestic servitude in both men and women.
With regards to prevention of human trafficking, it should be noted that it is as a matter of first
importance focus on what leads to the practice of human trafficking. Destitution, joblessness or
aggressive behaviors at residential places are some of the reasons for the practice of human
trafficking and they originate from different social beliefs and practices. This can be well
