The Vietnam War involved the northern and southern part of Vietnam. North Vietnam was
backed by China and Russia while South Vietnam was supported by the US. The northern part
won after the withdrawal of the US troops in South Vietnam, weakening its forces and
subsequently leading to its defeat (Kort, 2017). The loss was a total failure on the US because it
was defeated by a backward country and failed to control communism from propagating. The
critics argued that the US did not first gauge the kind of war they were getting into. This
misjudgment led to the defeat. They also violated the decree of military leaders who warned
against ground combat involvement in Asia due to what happened in World War II. The US
