Overview of Ballet
Ballet is a highly technical performance dance that came about in the 15th Century. At
this time, Italy and the rest of Europe were undergoing a radical cultural change, otherwise
known as the Italian Renaissance1. Afterward, this dance became a favored concert dance in
Russia and France. Over the years, the uniqueness of ballet has gained popularity in other parts
of the world. French terminology is the mainstay of ballet and this perhaps makes it even more
endearing to fans that are ardent at studying different cultures particularly French civilization.
Some of the popular terminologies and their meaning are illustrated below2:
Harvard Ballet Company
Since its inception in 1993, the Harvard Ballet Company (HBC) has been a student-run initiative
that practices various forms of dance ranging from classical to modern dance. This outfit is based
