Theoretical and Practical Wisdom
Theoretical and practical wisdom are distinct forms of reasoning that form part of
intellectual virtues categorized according to whether they remain concerned with what can or
cannot be otherwise. Theoretical wisdom involves learning and understanding the basics of how
things exist and works and the processes involved while practical remains concerned with the
tools and techniques to put the theory into practice. According to Aristotle, theoretical wisdom
remains concerned with knowledge of first principles aimed at the necessary concepts of reality
while practical wisdom gets aimed at contingent issues that remain susceptible to the action or
influence of humans (Aristotle., and Brown, 2009). Despite remaining dependent on each other,
there exist the various difference between theoretical and practical wisdom.
First, theoretical wisdom is a form of practice that gets judged by the reasonable
standards regarding effectiveness, productivity, and appropriateness. Aristotle believes that
