that is characterized by unnecessary debt and wastage. A person with this condition is unable to
understand the consequences of financial actions. There has been a recent demarcation between
the rich and the middle class, this has led to the scaling up of the desire for prestigious brands,
and luxury styles (James, 2007) .The public has had a major role in the spread of affluenza
especially because there is often societal pressure to be affiliated with wealth and success.
Wealth in itself may lead people to act reckless and become self-destructive and it is important
for individuals to recognize the importance of wealth management. The costs and the
consequences of affluenza are huge even though the condition is often hidden.
It is caused by the obsession with economic expansion and success. The occurrence of
affluenza is rooted in the single-minded belief that more is better. Affluenza is a social disease
