Description

QUESTION ONE - this is different from question two

As before, I would like each of you to answer one of the following. Others should read through the answers provided and add any additional information they feel is pertinent; provide feedback and commentary to at least two of your fellow students.

  1. Monitor your exercise for a couple of days, consider the following: Duration, intensity, and frequency. Do you feel you get enough exercise per day? If not, what is keeping you from exercising more? What activities could you add to your schedule? What non-exercise activities could you eliminate? What activities could you continue as you age?
  2. Interview two elders regarding their exercise beliefs and practices. Has their activity level changed over the years? If it has changed what are the reasons why?
  3. As you have observed others exercising what is the proportion of elders present? Are there any barriers to their participation? How could their participation be encouraged? Are there activities specifically geared towards the elderly that are offered?
  4. Locate and contact a nursing home in your community. What kind of physical activity programs does it offer? Are there varying levels? Are all resident exercise needs addressed?
  5. Design a television or radio commercial to encourage exercise in elders. Think and discuss the approach you would take. Who might sponsor such an advertisement?

Question one
Monitor your exercise for a couple of days, consider the following: Duration,
intensity, and frequency. Do you feel you get enough exercise per day? If not, what is keeping
you from exercising more? What activities could you add to your schedule? What nonexercise activities could you eliminate? What actions could you continue as you age?
I exercise one hour per day and two hours over the weekend because the rest of the days I am
busy with work and school in the evening. However, I feel that the exercise is not enough for
my body because I still have a lot of pounds to lose. Sometimes I experience difficulty
breathing and experience a lot of fatigue when I walk for a short distance. I could add plenty
of water to my diet as well as practice healthy eating. Proteins are also crucial for the building
of muscles. What I would eliminate in my diet is sugar because it contributes to the addition
of weight, and so do products that contain carbohydrates. As I continue to age, i could add
simple exercise activities like walking for thirty minutes a day. Dancing is also another form
of exercise. Water forms a large part of our bodies so; I will continue to drink more. Water is
also helpful in keeping the body hydrated thereby enhancing healthy brain function.
Question 2
Anotated Bibliography
Wilson, M. G., Ellison, G. M., & Cable, N. T. (2016). The basic science behind the
cardiovascular benefits of exercise. Br J Sports Med, 50(2), 93-99.
Regular exercise has significant benefits to the overall; health of an individual. One of
the benefits of exercise is cardiovascular health. However, the impact of training on the
cardiovascular system depends on the duration, frequency, and intensity. According to the
article, exercising enlarges the four chambers of the heart regarding volume and thickness.
The increased thickness increases blood circulation in the heart leading to a healthy life.

However, the changes in the thickness of the vascular walls depend also on the health status
of the individual (Wilson, Ellison & Cable, 2016). Prolonged exercise like in the case of
athletes causes their body system to adapt to the changes because the practice is consistent.
Their arterial walls are thinner than those of non-athletes while their lumen is enlarged. These
structural adaptations of the heart enable normal heart function while the individual remains
healthy.
