For the past decade, Muslim Americans, especially those with Arab identities, have been the targets of prejudice and discrimination. What specific types of prejudice and discrimination have they been subjected to? Which theory (or theories) seem most compelling in explaining these attitudes and behaviors?
Most Americans would not easily accept the idea that "races" are not real, but are instead social creations. How would you begin to explain this basic sociological postulate to a friend or family member who argues that "you only need to look around you to see that the United States is made up of people of different races"?
