In each unit, your are required to respond to discussion question based on the unit topics. You are required to post a minimum of three posts in the Unit Discussion. You must post on at least 2 different days during the unit.

  1. Initial Post - Post a response to ONE of the posted discussion questions (250-300 words)by Thursday 11:59 pm CT. Your initial posting should incorporate and refer to concepts/ideas found in your unit readings as well as personal examples and illustrations.
  2. Response Posts - Post TWO responses to peer postings that respond to ideas and submission of your classmates (100 -150 words each) by Sunday 11:59 pm CT. Your peer responses need to go beyond agreement with your classmate. Each peer response should contain personal examples, applications, or additional information that promotes further discussion. Specific examples and applications receive more credit than generalized/vague statements.

In formulating your answer, review the case studies on page 55 and the criteria used to determine medical parole. The term suspended sentence is a word used to mean the cases where a person is placed
on probation by the court. There are two types of the suspended sentence according to the
Missouri state. The first one is called the Suspended imposition of sentence (SIS). The term is
applied when a person is placed on probation by the court but their cases have not been decided
yet but the Court still has full authority to execute the judgment in case the defendant breaks any
probation policies or law. The person can be prosecuted for the same number of years that was
quoted before they were given probation. The other type of suspended sentence is the Suspended
Execution of a sentence (SES). It is applicable where the judgment of a crime has already been
made and the accused found guilty but the court prefers to put the defendant probation. The
condition of this probation is that when a person breaks the probation policies they can be
sentenced for the four years because they were already found guilty.
The Killits case had a big influence on modern probation. The reason is that before
implementing the Killitis case, there was more than 2000 person at large on suspended
suspensions that was alarming to the welfare of the society. The judgment that was made was
that a judge had no power to suspend a case indefinitely and there was no right for any court to
continue to practice the law. Therefore, it was established that probation would be a remedy.
Since then, the formulation of the laws governing suspended sentence acted as a remedy, not a
penalty.
