Description

Please write a four page essay on any interest group of your choosing.

Here are just a few suggestions:

NRA, NARAL, Planned Parenthood, AARP, PETA, AFL-CIO, Christian Coalition, US Chamber of Commerce, American Medical Association, American Bar Association, Americans for Prosperity, MoveOn.Org, NAACP.

These are just a few. You may do any interest group you want to research though I would recommend that you focus on a group that you will have an easier time researching.

Your essay must:

  1. Explain the mission and goals of the interest group.
  2. Explain the methods the interest group uses to fund raise.
  3. Explain the methods they employ to influence policy i.e. lobbying, donating to politicians, running advertisements, organizing protests etc. A strong essay will incorporate various examples from the research you have done.
  4. Briefly opine, in a closing paragraph, as to whether you believe the interest group is achieving its mission.

The essay must incorporate at least four different citations.

ADVICE: THIS IS NOT A HISTORY PAPER. DO NOT SPEND PARAGRAPHS DETAILING THE HISTORY OF THE INTEREST GROUP. ALSO THIS IS NOT A POSITION PAPER!! THE PURPOSE IS NOT TO GIVE YOUR OPINION ON POLICY! Stick to the outline I have provided you.

PLEASE HAND YOUR FIRST DRAFT FOR THIS ASSIGNMENT BY THE END OF THE WEEK.

I will expect you to have an outline, introductory paragraph and a list of at least 4 sources you are using for your essay.

Reminder: Do not violate the school’s scholastic dishonesty policies! Plagiarism- the unacknowledged us of the written work of another person- will not be tolerated! Do not put this assignment off to the last minute and make the mistake of plagiarizing someone else’s work. I will do anything I can to guide you through the essay development process but I will not tolerate plagiarism.

to the NRA have been founded and each operates and carries out its activities in a distinguished
manner. Formed in the year 1871, the NRA has been actively involved in issues relating gunrelated laws by directly informing their member what each law entails and how it could affect
them. Ever since 1975, the organization started getting directly involved pushing for or
campaigning against various legislations. This paper looks at how the NRA operates, its
founding pillars, sources of income, and its achievements so far.
The Mission and Goals of the NRA
NRA’s mission is brought out in its mission statement which states that its main purpose
is, “To protect and defend the constitution of the United States, especially with reference to the
inalienable right of the individual American citizen guaranteed by such constitution to acquire,
possess, collect, exhibit, transport, carry, transfer ownership of, and enjoy the right to use arms”
