Description

Professor Brian and Class,

When Jesus talked of the Kingdom, he was referring to authority as against locality. Christianity United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Bible (2018). Mark 1:15 puts it thus “This is the time of fulfillment. The kingdom of God is at hand. Repent, and believe in the gospel.” Jesus was talking about the reign of God, the unleashing of God’s power, as well as a call to repentance to accept the good news. The kingdom of God is to be received through faith and not works. Jesus demonstrated the extraordinary power of the Kingdom by healing the sick, opening the eyes of the blind among many other miracles. Jesus displayed the all-inclusiveness of the kingdom of God by eating with out casts and tax collectors which was and is still a big difference with the earthly kingdom and rulership. Jesus also suggested that God’s Kingdom is coming to reign on earth as seen in the prayer he taught the disciples Christianity United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Bible (2018). Mathew 6:10 ‘‘your kingdom come, your will be done, on earth as in heaven’’ The kingdom has come in fulfilment of the promises made in the old testament. A new covenant has been established, but its full manifestation is in the future. The beatitudes describe the character of the true followers of Jesus as a standard for ethical apocalypticism. According to Molloy (2013). Afterlife Human beings possess an immortal soul. Both body and soul ultimately will be rewarded in heaven or punished in hell. Jesus taught that there is a heaven and a hell, but he also talked of a second coming to judge the living and the death based on how each have lived.
