Introduction
Co-culture is a term which is used to refer to a group of people who have shared norms,
values, or interest beyond their citizenship (Orbe & Batten, 2017). They have little or no control
over the creation of a dominant structure in the society. This is based on the factors such as
ethnicity, sexual orientation, disability, class, race or religion. According to Redmond, Steven
Beebe and Susan Beebe (2001), is important to identify and explicate the communication
practices of the co-cultural groups to understand how the marginalized people communicate with
those who have direct access to power. It is assumed that the communicative experience of the
co-culture is a response to the dominant structures of the society which label them as outsiders.
Notably, there are different communication practices which depend on various reasons among
the groups in the society (Zirulnik & Orbe, 2018). The dominant culture shapes the language of
