In the past 25 years, technology has developed incredible fast. Following by the advance of technologies, humans are stepping into a new era, artificial intelligence. Before the 21st century, the slope of human species progress has been flat. Nevertheless, today's technology development is in a rapid pace. For example, many low skill workers are replaced with robots and other autonomous technologies, such as the autonomous drone that is going to be built in the senior project. Autonomous drone is one of the popular project in the field of artificial intelligence. Professor Chang Choo is one of the senior project adviser in Electrical Engineering, and he is managing around 10 groups of students who are focusing on artificial intelligence projects. Eventually, these artificial intelligence projects will impact the diverse community in different ways. The development of the autonomous drone can impact people’s job opportunities and bring benefits to the community. When it’s using for surveillance for security purpose, it’s also used as a killing machine in the war. The development of the autonomous drone can impact the social, economy and political system positively and negatively. In the Silicon Valley, there are numbers of companies researching on improving the features of the autonomous drone. At the same time, the autonomous drone is already in used for some companies for delivery and inventory management purpose. Amazon has been achieving with the autonomous drone; and it plans to develop a beehive for hundreds and thousands of drones to achieve drone delivery in the city within 30 minutes [1]. This will save the time for buying grocery and wait in line to make a payment, therefore increasing the work performance of engineers in Silicon Valley. At the same time, used of the autonomous drone will result in the increase of job opportunities for low skill workers which works for food preparation. On the other hand, Amazon and many other warehouses begin using autonomous drone for inventory management purpose. In the report of lost items in retail stores and warehouse, the value of loss is averaged around $45.2 billion annually. MIT has invented a technology that reads radio-frequency identification (RFID) tags, which will be installed on the drone. These RFID readers can detect, identify and locate the object 10 meters away with average error of 19 centimeters [2]. This invention can prevent mismatching and tracking loss items. However, because of the high efficiency of drone inventory management, fewer workers will be hired for warehouse inventory. Low skill workers are under deduction of work opportunities. The economy system will be impacted both positively and negatively. From the historical point of view, the United States is created by a group of immigrants. Diversity has been existed in the America from the start of first discovery by explorers. Over years, more and more immigrants are moving to the new continent, the United States becomes more multicultural and diverse. In 2017, there are approximately 43.3 million people living in the United States are foreign-born [3]. An autonomous drone with multi-language can be used in many ways in a diverse community. In research of non-English speaking patient, there are 22% of 172 patients not speaking English. There are up to 40% patients has potential illness not been discovered due to translation issue and missed communication cause by language difficulty [4]. Not only translating language, Amazon is also developing their drone with reading gesture and execute corresponding orders [1]. A multi-language drone can be controlled to provide first-time translation to gather all the useful data in a serious accident 24/7. The language system of the autonomous drone can maximize the social impact. As the technology developed, autonomous drones are also used widely in warfare. In the war, there are millions of soldiers suffered in the risk of death. The autonomous drone can be used to work as surveillance. In the space, there are satellites used to scan and map the land shape. In the buildings, an autonomous drone can 3D-map the rooms and floors within just few hours [5]. This technology can be used in war to perform high risk investigation to reduce the risk of death. Nonetheless, these drones can also be used as a weapon to kill people. There is a Youtube video shows that also perform murdering and killing people with strategies without any of death [6]. According to an Oxford Research Group, the study shows that there will be more wars as drones involved. While drones are used for security purposed, they are also used to kill more people during the war [7]. The autonomous drone has involved with political issue of using it in the correct direction. If the drone will provoke endless war around the world, it should be prohibited. Because everyone secures the right of life regardless of race, gender or erotic preference. Artificial intelligence is a two-edged sword that contributes to both positive and negative impacts. The advance technology start replacing low skill workers in industries and companies. Many warehouses and retail restores are manipulating autonomous drones to accomplish extensive work which brings higher efficiency than workers. But Amazon’s drone delivery business will need more workers to prepare items for delivery. This will impact the economy in both ways. When the autonomous drone is equipped with multi-language system, it will help with translation and make a decisive impact to the society. However, in the political point of view, the autonomous drone is a machine to bring benefits from the war while it’s developed for surveillance purpose. As follows, engineers should consider all the probable impacts of artificial intelligence to the economy, society and politics while developing new technologies.
