Digital Art 118 | Assignment Peck School of the Arts ASSIGNMENT 4 - ISO ABSTRACT Isolate an image from the background layer, and then perform multiple transformations to those isolated pixels. The final image will be an 8” x 10” print. OBJECTIVES • Edits must be non-destructive • File must follow the image size and resolution conventions • The selected pixels must be perfectly masked from the background • There is evidence of multiple transformations, duplications, and rotations • All transformations are put in a properly labeled and color-coded group • The file follows proper naming/file type conventions • The file is printed before the beginning of class SOFTWARE KEYWORDS IF YOU DON'T COMPLETE THE RED LINE ITEMS, YOU WILL NOT PASS THIS PROJECT!!! Adobe Photoshop Remix Culture Appropriation Power / Class BEFORE YOU PROCEED! 1 CLICK THIS BOX TO LOG INTO LYNDA.COM 2 AFTER LOGGING IN, CLICK THE GREEN DEMO LINED STEPS WITH THE DEMO ICON (shown at the right) & YOU WILL BE FORWARDED TO A LYNDA.COM VIDEO TUTORIAL FOR THAT STEP. INSTRUCTIONS 1 Find an image in your DIA that contains a complex figure-ground relationship. 2 Create a new file in Photoshop that uses the following conventions: 8” x 10”, 300PPI, RGB, and a White Background Layer. 3 Place the image in the new file. DEMO 4 Using a combination of the selection tools and the Select and Mask panel, create a perfect selection of the figure from the ground. (0:10) DEMO FOURTH LINK! SECOND LINK! THIRD LINK! (2:15) (0:20) (2:49) DEMO DEMO DEMO DEMO FIFTH LINK! DEMO (0:26) SIXTH LINK! (2:36) 5 Create a layer mask that isolates the selected content. Modify the mask as necessary by painting white (to reveal) and black (to conceal) with the Brush tool. (3:06) DEMO 6 Convert the masked layer to a smart object and jump duplicate copies onto new smart object layers. (2:37) TIP: When making transformations, it is recommended to convert text/pixel information into a “Smart Object” (Layer>Smart Object>Convert to Smart Object) because of the numerous benefits this kind of layer provides. 7 Select the individual layers with isolated pixels. 8 In a creative way, transform, rotate, and duplicate the isolated object(s). (I recommend experimenting with different types of visual balance!) 9 Group all of the layers of the transformed isolated objects into a folder. 10 Label that folder “Transformations” and color-code it red. 11 Save the document as a flattend .TIFF (Compression IMB PC) and prepare it for print in the Output Lab using the following naming convention: iso_lastname.TIFF. Example: iso_ripley.TIFF (Make sure to also save a .PSD) 12 *Have the print ready at the beginning of class by the next time your lab section meets. 13 Upload BOTH the .PSD and the .TIFF associated with this assignment to your section’s dropbox before the beginning of your lab section. *NOTE- PRINTING YOUR IMAGE IN THE OUTPUT LAB DIRECTLY BEFORE CLASS IS NOT ADVISED. GIVE YOURSELF MULTIPLE PRINT DATES. "PRINTING ISSUES" IS NOT AN ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE. IF YOUR FILE IS NOT PRINTED, IT IS LATE.
