Story of an Hour by Kate Chopin is a depiction of marriage life in 1900s Missouri.
Chopin employs veiled and unveiled hints to insinuate the oppressing nature of marriage and
hence the freedom of a partner at the death of one party. Chopin gives the audience an unpopular
perspective to marriage and love where the protagonist, Mrs. Louise Mallard, undergoes
exhilarations associated with freedom as opposed to expected desolation of loneliness after her

impact of such a crushing disappointment is the death of the protagonist. Story of an Hour

Mrs. Mallard emotional restriction in Story of an Hour can be illustrated by her
seemingly loveless marriage in an internal conflict between freedom and imprisonment. The
