SYNTHESIS OF BIODIESEL AND SOAP

Introduction
Tri-esters of glycerol can primarily be used in the manufacture of soap and biodiesel. Animal fat
and vegetable oil form one of the primary sources of the tri-esters. Biodiesel is a form of any
alkyl ester. The transformation of the vegetable oil to the biodiesel calls for the taking the
vegetable oil to undergo a process of Trans esterification (Weldegrima, 2017). The process
mainly involves the carboxylic acid ester being converted into a different carboxylic acid ester
(LibreTexts). Through the experiment, there will be the use of sodium hydroxide and methanol.
Most individuals know vegetable oil for its renewable and alternative feedstock that is ever
available in large scale. Clean nonrenewable energy in the present society identifies their sources
from vegetable oil. The Trans esterification process is also considered advantageous citing its
nature of reducing waste reaction. The process results to the release of glycerine as a byproduct
and majorly used as an alternative feedstock in several other processes. Through the different
response, saponification comes as a result of the vegetable oil. “Saponification is a chemical
reaction that involves the production of a metal salt or soap. This reaction involves the attack on
a methyl est...
