In pediatric care, the family represents the sole source of the child’s strength and support.
Collaboration in pediatric setting refers to engagements between the family of the child under care
and the pediatrician. Since children may be brought under pediatric care following various
illnesses, the need to engage multiple professions becomes a necessity. Collaboration is pediatric
setting, therefore, extends from a family-pediatric centered care to multi professionals in the
medical field (An & Palisano, 2014). This paper is an observation that focuses on issues
surrounding collaboration between the family and pediatric professions and collaboration amongst
professions in pediatric primary care.
Multidisciplinary Collaboration
Multidisciplinary collaboration in a pediatric setting is experienced when children in a
pediatric center have varied cases of illnesses or when a child possesses more than one medical
condition that requires attention. For instance, mental illness, physical impairment, and domestic
violence are common family problems. Children may find themselves in pediatric rehabilitation
