Description

This essay explores the persuasive mode, one of the more common kinds of writing you’ll experience throughout your college and professional career. Your goal is to persuade your audience to consider your position on a controversial subject. Understand, there is seldom a definitive right or wrong answer in anything. You should anticipate the real possibility that some of your readers will not initially agree with you on your stance. Part of this essay requires that you take opposing viewpoints into consideration when making your argument. By truthfully representing the strengths of your opponent’s point of view, you show that you have considered more than one option when making your decision. This gives you more clout with your audience.

Criteria

The final draft of your essay should contain the following basic features:

  • A well-defined issue that is controversial by nature
  • A clear thesis statement that demonstrates the position you will be taking throughout this essay
  • A treatment of at least three reputable sources, at least one drawn from the EBSCO database, and at least one of them supporting your claim
  • A counter argument with at least one credible source defending the opposing viewpoint
  • A refutation to or compromise with the counter argument

In addition to the above, the final draft of your essay should be:

  • From 900 to 1200 words in length, typed in Times New Roman, 12pt. font, double-spaced,with one inch margins
  • Written primarily in third person
  • Edited for spelling, mechanical, grammatical, and typing errors

Note: This assignment calls for a revision of your W6 Persuasive Rough Draft, not a new essay on a different topic. Your revision must show significant effort to "re-see" your work. While you should also edit your paper, editing alone is not revision.

Persuasive Essay March 23, 2018 Persuasive Paper According to Zedler et.al (2002), over the years people have always differed on whether the use animal for medical research is appropriate or not. According to many scientific researchers, the removal of animals entirely from the labs would have its own downside because it could translate to the scientists not being to entirely study the effects of the disease on our bodies. This would mean that even the development of new medicine would prove to be an uphill task for the scientist. This begs the question which life is more precious than the other, the human being’s or the animal’s life? This has been one of the hottest debates. Most people have argued that if the scientists reduce the harm to the animals by ensuring that they follow the 3R’s then this would not be a topic under controversy. According to Rodgers(2018), the 3Rs stand for replace which means that the scientists can substitute where possible by using cells or even volunteer humans, the next r stands for reducing the number of animals used by improving communication with other scientists do that we do not replicate the same procedure and hence use many animals. The final r stands for refining the way the animals are cared for so as to reduce pain by using less invasive techniques where possible and improving medical care and living conditions. Even though most of the people are against the use of animals it is important to note that animals are important in research since the basic cell processes are the same in both human and animals so this makes it easier for scientists to advance their studies on the human body functions. During this process, the scientist is able to understand what happens when we fall ill. Also, animals can be used as models to study the illnesses that affect humans such as cancers and cataracts. During development of new treatment, the same can be tested on the animals to see how their immune system responds to treatment. In addition, they can be used to protect the safety of people animals and the environment this is mainly because researchers must measure both the harmful and beneficial effects of a compound on a tissue which is an animal before it is approved to be tested on a human being. Most animal welfare campaign activists are always against the use of animals for research because they argue that animals are subjected to a lot of torture and also death and they believe that this is very unfair. In addition to that, they argue that they are also put in cages and this is quite unfair because this is basically denying them their freedom (Thondike, 2017). On this matter, I think that human life is more precious than animal life in all ways. This is because for starters human beings have an intelligence quotient that is higher than that of animal and also they don’t have the same access to our state of being in the same they do not have the sympathy, and also the unique sort of love that we share with each other. Also, according to the animal farm, the author clearly states that all animals are equal but some are equal than others. Also, for Christians the story on Adam, Eve, and the serpent even though it is the serpent that deceived Eve into eating the forbidden fruit, human beings were made to take the full responsibility for their actions. This goes a long way to show us that even God our creator believed that between Human beings and animals, human beings are more superior in terms of even discerning what is right from wrong. This does not mean that I am not an animal lover, I am in fact I have a few puppies and kittens at home. It’s only that I believe human beings are more superior to animals and that we cannot be treated as equals. I also believe that animals also have their own rights and as such it is our duty to protect them from any impending harm or danger. Furthermore, as scientists conduct their research they should ensure that they should only use the animals when it is extremely necessary. In conclusion, we have to live harmoniously with animals but on the other hand, we have to understand that animals will continue to be used as subjects by scientists when it comes to inventions not because we don’t value them but because human life is so precious and it has to be protected by all means necessary. NAME: 1 Name: Course: Tutor: Date: Revision Plan Having written my first draft, I believe that I will be able to write better in the final paper. To achieve this, I will take a number of steps. To begin with, I will reread the instructions for any piece that I would have missed in my draft papers. This is to ensure that my work is in line with the requirements. Secondly, I would check for obvious grammar and spelling mistakes in the paper since it is one of the aspects that one must follow. On top of this, I would read keenly the reviews and comments made by my fellow students and include those that make my paper better. The last thing would be to read my lecturer's comments since it carries professional weight. Furthermore, seeing that the lecture will be marking my work, it would pay off having a clear understanding of what is needed. After taking all this measures, I would reread to check for any errors and submit the work for plagiarism check before sending as the final copy. Taking these steps will enable me have a quality paper.
