In the spring of 2015, about 25% of US undergraduate students reported suffering from a mental health
condition within the last 12 months (American College Health Association, 2015, p. 15). Most of the
students who studied in abroad were found to have stress related conditions as compared to those who
were involved in studies in their home countries .Students were found have stress and depression
according to a study conducted using a questionnaire and Zung self-rating depression scale .These stress
related conditions were contributed by several factors for instance cultural differences, language, financial
and academic barriers .Students who were involved in abroad studies were mostly from the developing
countries where the education level is usually low as compared to the developed countries .These students
usually have traveled abroad while seeking better education and mostly usually have been sponsored by
various foundation organizations but their stay abroad is usually difficult and some do not even achieve
their objectives for their overseas stay.
Language refers to form of communication that takes place using words or through gesturing to express
thought in a person’s mind .Language is very important in enabling an individual to easily coexist with
any society .Language facilitates communication to take place effectively and messages to be easily and
correctly delivered .Many students travelling abroad in search of better education they are faced with the
problem of language barrier .Many developing countries usually communicate using their native
languages and the majority of people do not know any of the international languages hence when they are
