For the new project you are required to prepare the report covering the following aspects. a) Proposal for case study. b) Prepare the Take-off quantities for the new awarded villa project covering sub-structure , super-structure and finishes (topsoil, foundation, earthwork support, In-situ concrete, Brickwork/Block work, d.p.c, flooring concrete, walls, roof concrete, plastering, painting, floor finishes, skirting, consider wall thick as 200 mm) and add preliminaries, contingency, professional fee in BOQ. Prepare the Bills of Quantities relevant to SMM7. Refer details of room dimension in excel file. c) Explore the problems you may face during take-off and BOQ of this villa project and give solution to minimize the issues. d) Suggest the cost advice and payment options for villa project. 2 Quantity Surveying Practice Building (CIVL 0025) -SPRING-18-CW 2 Report Format 1) The front cover of the report should have MEC logo and no page number should appear. Quantity Surveying Practice (Building)

CHAPTER ONE
QUANTITY SURVEYING PRACTICE (BUILDING) – VILLA
PROJECT
Introduction
Contractors need to make precise and accurate estimates on project costs when bidding
for tenders. Risk-averse contactors solicit the services of renown quantity surveyors who help
them in estimating the costs to be incurred and the duration of the project (Burger 2017).
Evaluating the variable s to be used in different stages, and the projected costs are crucial as it
guarantees successful completion of the construction. A unit-cost technique should be employed
in these projects. This technique reaps maximum benefits as each unit is correctly quantified
(Dyke 2017). Accurate forecasts aid in making correct decisions in budgeting. Furthermore,
overestimating or underestimating will increase the chances of losing money in the course of the
project. Both the client and the bidder are at risk of making losses if the predictions are wrong.
The budgeting process has to be aligned with the estimates and the predicted timeline for
completing various parts of the project. In our case, we analyze and quantify the estimated costs
and schedule for constructing a villa project that has been awarded to our company. Preparation
of the takeoff quantities is pivotal for the entire project. The report will also analyze the
challenges that may arise in the course of constructing the villa and the possible contingency
plan that can be laid out to counter the probable setbacks. Although making perfect estimates
may be humanly impossible at times, a prudent quantity surveyor takes into account all the
possible factors that will affect his work including unforeseen market conditions (Dyke 2017).
This technique will minimize the probability of making poor estimates and ensure that near
perfect assessments are made.
The report will also evaluate different payment options that are in the industry. This
evaluation will help in determining the best payment option to be adopted. The payment option
and the amount to be paid should be documented and the supporting documents attached. The
report will stipulate the terms and conditions for the payments thus eliminating the risks of
default (Tether et al. 2015). Quantity surveyors should use all the available means to enhance
accuracy. The paper aims at analyzing the whole concept of quantity surveying. The entire idea
of quantity surveying is explained in this paper. We try to elaborate the essential requirements

for the success of the project and the probable challenges. In addition to that, the article further
gives recommendations on what can be done to curb risks for the villa project to run smoothly.

CHAPTER TWO
TAKE OF QUANTITIES AND BOQ
Estimation Procedure
In our case, we are going to use the elemental method of estimation. We chose this
technique primarily because we already have a plan. The elemental way gives a vivid picture of
various aspects of the construction thus making it easy to determine the cost (Soutos and Lowe
2011). Its elaborate nature makes it possible for the client to understand how mu...
