Running Head: LEADERSHIP 1 Leadership and You Kevin Moseley GM502 3/10/2018 LEADERSHIP 2 Introduction Leadership can be defined from different perspectives depending on the target audience. However, all the multiple definitions converge in the assumption that it only takes great leaders to implement strategic and visionary decisions then convince the rest to take up the initiative of following up the actions. It is commonly agreed that leadership has the responsibility of creating a vision and getting followers embrace the visions to achieve the highest level of success. It is, therefore, the initiative of the leaders to set directions and then inspire others who would like to achieve a greater level of success within their jurisdiction. To achieve such goals, a leader must motivate the followers to see the need of embracing the vision and objectives of the leadership process. Definition of Leadership The term leadership means to influence. It is used to depict how an individual or a group of people influence the behavior, perception, attitude, and actions of others towards certain issues in the society. Leadership involves the use of policies, ideologies or agenda to convince people to take up the collective responsibility of realizing similar tools and objectless. It involves providing guidance to others who are considered followers of the people or person taking a lead role. It may also involve the aspect of making a critical decision that will have a bearing on the future of an organization and its stakeholders (Adair, 2015, p.112). In essence, good leadership requires the proper articulation of clear missions and vision that will guide the activities and operations of the origination or group. It is, therefore, the responsibility of a leader to provide the followers with clear goals, knowledge, tools and all the necessary resources that could be used to achieve these goals. LEADERSHIP 3 According to the existing literature, leadership involves portraying proficiency in daily activities to guide and teach others how to become successful individuals. The society looks at leaders for guidance on all issues affecting them. The class text defines leadership as the process through which an individual influence follows to achieve a common goal (Northhouse, 2016, p.24). However, Cohen Sammy defines leadership as the aspect of playing to strengths as a way of addressing weakens in an effective and productive manner. According to this scholar, leadership is about having the requisite knowledge about the team one is leading and then taking up the initiative of driving the transformation of the team to achieve the greatest level of success Past Leadership Experience, Activities at Work, And Information Gained from Previous Classes. In my past leadership experience, I discovered that there are many ways through which an individual can exemplify leadership to his followers. It requires an individual to demonstrate a certain level of initiated structures and then take into consideration various aspects of leadership to achieve the highest level of success (Kouzes & Posner, 2016). I also learned that certain tasks have a significant role to play in the leadership ability of an individual. For instance, a leader must be capable of properly defining the roles and responsibilities that must be undertaken to achieve a transformational agenda in the organization. Leaders must also schedule their activities so as to dedicate equal time for all issues and concerns of the followers and various departments of the organization they lead. From the daily activities I undertake at work, I learned that scheduling work is a leadership behavior that can define the relationship between a leader and the followers. As such, it is a vital tool that a leader may explore to gain a commandeering support from the follower (Northouse, 2016, p.27). I learned that honesty, respect, and trust are the core of an effective LEADERSHIP 4 leadership in any organization. A leader is therefore obliged to struggle to gain the trust and loyalty of his followers to be able to marshal their support and commitments toward driving the organization to achieve its mission and objectives. The information I gained from my previous class activity reveals that transformational leadership takes a center stage in spearheading the missions and goals of an organization by getting all the staff and employee collectively involved in the process. Under this leadership approach, the leader focus on compliance to authority and all the jobs and tasks that the organization plans to undertake are given priority as opposed to the individuals tasked with the responsibility (Northouse, 2016, p.31). The individuals are viewed as the tools and means through which the task and objectives of the organization can be achieved. Such a leadership style can be viewed as a mission-driven leadership that intends to take control of all the activities of an organization. It involves influencing the perception and attitude of the followers to take up the initiative of driving the company's mission and goals to success. It also focuses on establishing a smooth rapport between the leaders and their followers to ensure that the wellbeing and opinion of the followers are incorporated into every decision making process. Selected Leader That Suits the Above Definition From my perspective, the leader who best exemplifies the leadership transits and characteristics describes above is President Barack Obama. During his reign as the President of the United States, Obama led the nation with confidence, enthusiasm, and charisma that led to a total reshape the political system of the country. President Barack Obama leadership style revolved around happiness, wisdom, honesty and enlightens to the transformation of the lives of the citizens of the United States (Kouzes & Posner, 2016, p.21). He also demonstrated proactive leadership traits that were based on principles and not attached to personal feelings. His most LEADERSHIP 5 evident achievements form this kind of leadership can be seen from the various policies, projects, and reforms he initiated during his time as the President of the United States. Examples of What This Leader Has Done To Support Your Choice The specific attributes and achievement of President Barack Obama that supports my choice of him as the leader of choice is the fact that he managed to attract the attention of American's and immigrants alike with an ostensibly captivating nature. The fact that President Obama managed to employ a captivating approach in his leadership style demonstrates how he fits the definition of a transformational leader (Northouse, 2016, p.31). In this context, President Barack Obama initiated many development agenda, policies, and ideas that transformed the lives of the Americans by imploring a permanent change in their ideas, opinions, and perceptions of the people to embrace his vision. President Obama has also managed to display ambition, confidence and has always been unassumingly dominant and self-assertive in his role as the head of state (Bertocci, 2015, p.105). He always accepts responsibilities and demonstrates corporation with all interest grow up to achieve higher level focuses on is transformative agenda. His policies such as the Obamacare is an illustration of a forward-looking mission of a transformative leader keen on changing the lives of his followers. What This Leader Has Done That I Would Like To Emulate President Barack Obama has managed to transform the actions and behavior of his followers and made them become agents of changes in his organization. The leader has managed to transform the long-term goals, emotions, ethics, values, and standards of his followers in undertaken activities (Bertocci, 2015, p.105). In addition, this leader has managed to link all the actions of the followers to the strategic goals and objectives of the organization, thus making it possible to achieve a greater level of success. LEADERSHIP 6 Accordingly, I would like to emulate this transformational leadership approach that this leader has managed to inculcate in the followers in my future engagements. I will ensure that I integrate all departments and levels of leadership into one pool to establish a formidable charisma that can take the organization to greater levels of success (Northouse, 2016, p.25). As a matter of fact, I will use the transformational leadership concept of individual consideration, intellectual stimulation, inspirational motivation and idealized influence to ensure that all my followers collectively contribute towards the successes of the organization. Conclusion There are many forms of definition to leadership, both form literature and life experience. None the less it is the responsibility of leaders to influence the action and behaviors of their followers to achieve the objectives and goals of an organization. All these leadership traits and attributes can be achieved through self-leadership and personal experiences. It is therefore important to embrace the traits and attributes of the leaders we come in contact with in our daily lives to achieve success. Moreover, a leader must always demonstrate honesty and forwardlooking attributes to ensure that the followers are confidently brought on board to understand their role in the organization. Introduction

Leadership can also is as a winning combination of personal traits and the ability of an
individual to think and act as a leader in directing the activities of other people for a general good
of all people. In a business context, leadership welds to performance and is not necessarily tied to
profits but rather strong character, integrity, honesty, ethics and trustworthiness and great skills
in communication. By portraying managerial competence, a leader is also able to earn the trust of
the people and organization at large that he/she leads in working towards a shared goal. This
paper will in detail discuss the description of the term leadership. An analysis of President John
Fitzgerald Kennedy as a leader in terms of concepts, theory and practice and recommendations
that would have increased his effectiveness to produce a stronger leadership outcome would also
be provided. A description of transformational and democratic leadership styles that I identify
with the most and how I would implement these styles in my leadership approach would also be
discussed.
Definition of Leadership
From Unit 1, I had described leadership as the ability of an individual to influence the
attitudes, perception, behaviors and actions of other people towards specific issues in the society.
This can be attained through the effective use of ideologies and policies in convincing people to
take collective responsibilities to achieve similar goals and objectives. However, basing on the
fact that a leader acts as the ultimate guider and decision maker of a team, it means that in
leadership, resources are used and a team often has a common/shared purpose. This should be
included in the definition of leadership.
With this in mind, leadership can be described as a practical skill in the ability of an
individual to guide and lead other people through the maximum utilization of resources for a
