How does Speier define public opinion (3 pages), history homework help
BE SURE TO READ EVERYTHINGIt is an article of faith that democracies represent the will of the populace, and therefore must be cognizant of public opinion. But this was not always the case. Before the Enlightenment (18th century) sovereigns believed that they ruled by divine will, not popular will. The signing of Magna Carta in 1215 had confirmed the principle that royalty were subject to some constraint (the opinion of other landed aristocrats). However, the next step, the idea that nations must operate according to a social contract between the governed and the government, would take another 500 years to take hold.Attending theaters, living in urban areas, going to coffee houses, and reading newspapers all helped to give people the sense that they were part of “a public.” Wealth and education provided the public with more opportunity to congregate and more ideas to talk about. As Europe gained a middle class who participated in discussion of current affairs, governments began to listen to them more. At first this involved domestic affairs, then foreign affairs. The article below goes into more detail about the way public opinion emerged and became one of the cornerstones of modernity.Read the information in the following article:Speier, H. (1950).Historical Development of Public Opinion,American Journal of Sociology, 55, 4. 376-388http://www.jstor.org/stable/2772299?&seq=1#page_scan_tab_contentsAnswer the following questions:How does Speier define public opinion?Until the French Revolution writers feared that the public at large were unreliable due to superstition, prejudice, and excess passion. Who did earlier writers believe was likely to hold reasonable opinions? What does Speier mean when he says that “Public opinion is a phenomenon of middle-class civilization”?What new ways to circulate information helped the new middle class learn about current affairs?Include a separate cover AND reference page at the end that includes every website and article on which you base your information and analysis. In the reference list, please note that a URL with no additional information is not a complete reference. Over time, link root will make any URL useless. Each reference should contain all the information a reader would need to find the source.

Write and submit Lakoff Theory Policy Analysis
Hi this is SApply George Lakoff's theory to one political issue and explain why both liberals and conservatives would be for or against a policy preference. You must first explain the family dynamics in both the Strict Father and Nurturant Parent models (explain in detail how the models work), then list, explain, and apply at least FOUR metaphors (Examples: Moral Order, Moral Nurturance, Moral Empathy and so on...) from each model (Strict Father & Nurturant Parent) to the issue position. Be sure to provide a brief discussion of the issue before you apply the models. For example, if you chose single-payer healthcare or Medicare-For-All as your issue, you will need to describe the issue, then explain why a conservative would be opposed to or in favor of such a policy and then do the same thing for liberals.Steps:1. Read Moral Politics Article download2. Watch Moral Politics lecture3. Watch Lakoff's lecture on Moral Politics4. Watch Lakoff lecture5. Pick any issue that interests you (same-sex marriage, gun rights, healthcare, wearing masks during Covid-19, January 6th Capitol Insurrection, etc.)6. Start your paper and discuss immediately how the Strict Father and Nurturant Parent models work. What are the dynamics in the family and outside world? This should be detailed and consistent with the lectures and reading (Moral Politics).7. Provide a brief discussion of the issue.8. Apply the models to your issue and explain why Strict Father (conservatives) and Nurturant Parent (liberals) would be in favor of or opposed to your issue position. Remember the parents represent the government and children represent the people or citizens. 9. Pick four metaphors that inform the conservative position from the metaphors in the Strict Father model (Moral Order, Moral Strength, Moral Self-interest, etc.)9. Pick four metaphors that inform the liberal position from the metaphors in the Nurturant Parent model (Moral Empathy, Moral Social Nurturance, Moral Fair Distribution, etc.) 10. Be sure to explain and describe in detail each metaphor you choose and explain how they apply to the issue position of the liberal or conservative. You will do this a total of eight times for eight metaphors. For example, Moral Empathy requires you to feel what others feel, so a liberal might be in favor of same-sex marriage because it wouldn't feel nice not to be able to marry your life partner. 11. Be sure to fully describe the models, metaphors, and apply them in detail. This is your opportunity to showcase your understanding of Lakoff's theory. If you can apply the models and metaphors effectively you can also argue that both liberals and conservatives would be in favor or opposed to the same policy preference, but this requires more effort and you may wish to consult me during office hours. You do not need an introduction but your paper will be assessed for the hallmarks of a college essay including proper grammar and punctuation, topic sentences, and other expectations of college writing. Your paper will be assessed through Turnitin.com and should be at least 800 wordsStep 3 video: https://www.c-span.org/video/?190817-1/dont-elepha...Step 4 video:
