Introduction
Spotify is a music streaming platform founded by Martin Lorentzon and Daniel Ek. The
company was founded in 2006, and its primary goal is to provide music to everyone. Spotify is
currently available in 57 countries; it allows the user to create custom playlists which they can
play via an internet connection. Spotify offers two distinct products including Spotify and
Spotify Premium (Rai & Auchard, 2018). The Spotify Premium allows users to access the
playlist offline after payment of a subscription fee. On the other hand, Spotify also has a social
media platform where users can interact and share playlists with friends. Furthermore, users have
the opportunity to follow the playlists of those artists whom they consider as their favorites. The
Spotify App allows users to access songs through artists, CD name or by the title of the song
(Rai & Auchard, 2018). The company makes their music available to users after negotiating with
the music labels to avoid violation of the copyright rules. The brand identity of Spotify is based
on the phrase “the right music for every moment” (Rai & Auchard, 2018). The company intends
to ensure that every smartphone owner can use Spotify by finding the music that they truly love,
discovering new music, following their favorite artists and connecting with friends via social
media.
The current technological changes present Spotify with a myriad of opportunities and
challenges as they strive to recreate the music industry. The changing market is presenting the
firm with greater entrepreneurial and intrapreneurial opportunities that are worth exploiting. It
can develop various avenues of creating revenue including advertising and social media
platform. Entrepreneurial opportunities for the firm are reliant on the creativity of its employees
and founders to create or develop new platforms that can generate more revenue for the firm (Rai
& Auchard, 2018). On the other hand, entrepreneurial opportunities refer to the available

opportunities that the firm can venture into to create a wider market for its products in the music

Entrepreneurial Opportunities
Since the creation of the company, it has managed to develop a stable market for its
products. The firm is presented with opportunities that can allow it penetrate emerging markets
in the music industry and beyond. Spotify operates in 57 countries in the world. It is evident that
there are other exciting opportunities in other parts of the world that the company can exploit.
The current generation has a good taste for music and provision of personalized playlists will see
the demand of the digital music content on the rise. Spotify can grow in its current market by
adding new products that meet the needs of the current consumers in the market (Rai & Auchard,
2018). Spotify has the opportunity to enhance their relationships with the artists who have been
complaining of low royalties in the past to allow the increase the content of the music in their
personalized playlists.
